hope
i was on a plane for many hours, and had the adventure of watching TV for 6 hours. i rarely watch TV, so it was intriguing to see what was on, and what our world views. i channel surfed between comedy specials talking about kate and jon (who are they ??) and obama. i observed with neutrality and honestly a bit of humor. the extremes in our culture....FEAR and then STARS who are fighting...is amazing. as i was channel surfing i came across a poll. it was done globally i suppose ( who does these polls anyway?) and it was on the subject of hope.
it gave a percentage, which i find interesting...and intriguing. measuring hope is like trying to measure how much air we should breathe moment to moment, but none the less, IT MADE news...and i was in fact watching it...enamored by it...
so as a GLOBE 67% are losing hope for our world and feel dismayed by it.
those words then became a sentence on the bottom of the screen that kept going on and on, while other "fear and sad" events were being focused on top of the screen.
interesting.
i pondered this leaving a gospel choir this morning. as i left the building, i had to step around the many homeless lying on the street or sitting asking for food.
i may not know a lot, but i do know that hope is not something that is measured. it is our innate right to have hope. hope that tomorrow is a new day. hope that maybe one person will give a homeless a piece of food, or shelter. we cant lose hope, we can only CHOOSE to ACT as if life sucks and then you die.
what i find amazing is ....the ONE time we NEED to come together and hope for community, collaboration, support and NEW- is NOW yet we take polls where supposedly most are choosing to "lose" this invaluable resource.
no government. no boss. no person can take away our hope. it is just as powerful as love.
nothing has ever happened WITHOUT it. without believing that WITH LIFE ALL things are possible. that it is IN THOSE TIMES of hardship and loss that HOPE is essential to take the next step.
the next step is when the magic happens. all i have ever had in my life, for 36 years is hope. hope that i can BE the difference. hope that if i choose to treat others with respect, THAT IS contributing to US ALL. hope that life matters. hope that love matters. hope that in the end of this play we called life.....we can all look back and say
"that was amazing....all of it. the mystery, the joy, the pain... it brought me closer TO LIFE"
life is not our enemy. life does not provide us with hope. WE ALREADY have it.
lets play with life...and contribute to the relationship we have WITH IT.

I could imagine that this "poll" is international. Having grown up in the U.S., but living in Berlin now, I see how much people rely on different political or financial systems, politicians and financiers for their happiness. Many give too much of their hope and control to those people, and see themselves as powerless to affect change. Much of Europe is against capitalism, big corporations, and their effects. The interesting thing is... nobody knows how to get out of their perception. Trying to create another social system isn't working. WE have to affect change as individuals, as you so rightly wrote. We have to be pro-people, pro-Love, and pro-play. Give to each other on every level and let our businesses do the same for their customers. We can give at every level from person to person.
Thank you for being a leader, and affecting change in your circle, which of course, affects the next circle and so forth.
I look forward to your next thoughts, which will become action through, at least, MY smile.
